Education and experience:

Thijs Giezen (1982) obtained his PharmD from Utrecht University in 2006. After his graduation, he started a PhD project at the division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology, Utrecht University, which resulted in a thesis with the title “Risk management of biologicals: a regulatory and clinical perspective”. His PhD project was combined with a position as a pharmacovigilance assessor at the Medicines Evaluation Board in the Netherlands. During his PhD project he obtained a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology from Utrecht University. Between 2011 and 2014 Thijs was trained as a hospital pharmacist at the Medical Spectrum Twente in Enschede.

Thijs currently holds a position as a hospital pharmacist at the Foundation Pharmacy for Hospitals in Haarlem (SAHZ). He is a member of the Biosimilar Working Party at the European Medicines Agency with a specific focus on clinical safety and pharmacovigilance, an external assessor for the Medicines Evaluation Board and chair of the “young” Medicines Evaluation Board.
